Licensed Therapist Requirements
North Carolina requires those seeking to become a licensed therapist in the field of Social work, Professional Counseling, and Substance Abuse counseling to meet the following:
· Must have a master’s degree in the field of Human Services
· Must have a completed 3,000 hours of supervised work with a Licensed Professional
· Must passed the state-issued exam
Substance Use Counselors
North Carolina allows substance abuse counselors to be certified with a minimum of a high school diploma
Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist
Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (or Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor), is reserved for individuals with master's degrees.
